A roofing company that gives away a free roof as part of an annual contest. Franchises that collect non-perishable goods and coats at Christmastime. Mom and pop shops that donate their time to local fundraising events. Despite the terrible economic times that we live in, Michigan businesses have stepped up to help members of their community.
Among the latest to offer assistance to people in need of their services is Flame Heating, Cooling & Electrical, a Warren-based company that specializes in keeping families warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
To honor Michigan’s veterans, active and retired local police officers, firefighters and military personnel, Flame Heating has launched “Heroes Among Us.” As a “thank you” to these people who have dedicated their careers to helping others, Flame will offer them $50 off the price of any service call and/or 15 percent off any new equipment purchase, now through April 30.
The promotion will include services or equipment needs involving tuneups or replacements, air duct inspection and cleaning, and the purchase or installation of a generator, boiler, thermostat or carbon monoxide detector.
“From firefighters and police (officers) to service personnel, (we) appreciate the efforts of these individuals who place their lives on the line every day,” said Gary Marowske, company president.
In addition, for the benefit of local homeowners and consumers, Flame Heating will host a home energy showcase from 5 to 8 p.m. March 15 at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Warren. The purpose of the event is to provide people with good information about energy conservation and technology related to the heating and cooling industry.
The event will feature numerous manufacturer representatives such as White Rodgers, a manufacturer of programmable thermostats, and North American Technician Excellence representative Kathy Corr. NATE is a non-profit certification organization for heating, ventilation, air condition and refrigeration technicians. The showcase will feature “America’s Favorite Handyman” and radio personality Glenn Haege, displays from the Detroit Science Center and a demonstration of Flame’s visible detection test, which identifies where cracks in the heater exchanger are located.
“Our focus was to create an event that would make it easy for homeowners to have all of their questions answered in one place,” said Marowske. “As more attention is put on energy efficiency, we believed it was vital to make that the theme of this year’s showcase.”
